The Chinese board game GO is probably the oldest and most abstract strategy game in the world. Using its concept of surrounding the opponent’s black or white game pieces with the player’s own black or white game pieces, a similar environment/space is constructed to house the actual game itself. The players are in a game playing against each other while being surrounded by a world composed of the pieces of the game itself. Perhaps it is a metaphor for our actual living environment where we are surrounding or being surrounded by others, for survival.
